Zamfara government recruits 2000 personnel to fight thuggery

The Zamfara State Government has approved the recruitment of 2000 personnel into the state’s anti-thuggery outfit.

Mr Bello Bakyasuwa, the Chairman of the State Anti-thuggery Standing Committee, disclosed this while speaking with newsmen in Gusau.

The News Agency of Nigeria recalls that the committee was established by Gov. Bello Matawalle under Executive Order 2 to fight thuggery, drug abuse and other related crimes in the state.

“Gov Bello Matawalle recently gave us approval for the recruitment of 2000 personnel comprising males and females into the anti-thuggery outfit in the state.

“We received applications from 6700 candidates comprising males and females seeking the job, we are currently on the recruitment exercise.

“Apart from 2000 personnel to be recruited, we are going to recruit additional volunteer personnel.

“This is part of the state government’s commitment to expanding the activities of the fight against thuggery, drugs abuse and other related crimes across the 14 Local Government Areas of the state.

“Immediately after the recruitment, we are going to deploy the newly recruited personnel to their respective LGAs,” he said.

Bakyasuwa said that the committee had from its inception to date drastically reduced the activities of thugs, drug abuse, social vices and other related crimes in the state.

The committee’s chairman reiterated its determination to rid the state of thuggery, drug abuse and other related crimes.

He cautioned political parties and politicians against sponsoring youths into thuggery, drug abuse and other related crimes in the state.

According to him, the committee would not allow anyone to cause unrest in the state in the name of politics.

“As I always say, the committee was established by the state government, not for political reasons but to enhance the security situation and ensure the protection of lives and properties of the citizens.

“We are not meant for political reasons or witch-hunting, we are mandated to complement the efforts of the government and security agencies in tackling the security challenges facing the state,” Bakyasuwa said.
