FG approves ₦5bn relief for Singer Market fire victims

The Federal Government has announced a ₦5 billion intervention fund for traders affected by the recent inferno at Singer Market in Kano, offering immediate support to hundreds whose shops and goods were destroyed.

The donation was made public on Monday by Vice-President Kashim Shettima during a sympathy visit to the scene of the disaster.

According to him, the package, approved by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, is intended to help victims rebuild their livelihoods and revive commercial activities within the market.

“The President has approved the sum of ₦5 billion to assist traders impacted by the Singer Market fire. The Federal Government shares in your pain and will continue to stand by you at this difficult time,” the Vice-President said.

The blaze, which occurred last week, razed large sections of the popular market and destroyed property reportedly worth billions of naira, throwing many business owners into distress.

Describing the incident as a tragedy of national proportions, Shettima noted that the loss extends beyond Kano State and affects the country at large. He also offered prayers for the victims and sought divine protection against future occurrences.

The Vice-President was joined on the visit by the governors of Jigawa State, Kebbi State and Imo State.

In his response, the Chairman of the Singer Market Traders Association, Junaid Zakari, thanked the Federal Government for what he called a prompt and generous intervention. He assured authorities that the funds would be transparently deployed to assist affected members and restore business operations.
