Governor Fintiri Defects from PDP to APC, brings key Adamawa lawmakers along
In a stunning political development, Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri of Adamawa State has officially defected from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC), a move that significantly strengthens the ruling party’s foothold in the region.
Governor Fintiri announced his defection on Friday, February 27, 2026, during a statewide broadcast in Yola, saying the decision was made in the “developmental interest of Adamawa State and its people.” He also revealed that several members of his cabinet and key PDP officials in the state were joining him in the switch.
The defection follows a wave of resignations in the Adamawa State House of Assembly, where about 15 lawmakers, including House Speaker Bathiya Wesley and his deputy Buba Jijiwa, quit the PDP citing internal crises.
