Neptune Prime’s Sa’adatu Maina, Isah Abba, re-elected treasurer, chairman of Yobe Correspondent Chapel

Neptune Prime North-East Bureau Chief, Hajiya Sa’adatu Maina, has been re-elected Treasurer of the Correspondents’ Chapel of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Yobe State, with Ahmed Isah Abba of News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) returning as Chairman of the chapel.
Other executive members who were elected are Mr Musa Buba Mingyi of Channels Television as Vice Chairman and Habibu Gimba Idris of Daily Trust as Secretary.
After their victory, the chairman of the chapel, Abba, urged journalists to remain steadfast in promoting national interest through responsible reportage.
Abba called on Tuesday in Damaturu during his acceptance speech following his re-election alongside other executive members for a new three-year term.
He emphasised the central role of journalists in national development, noting that integrity, truth, and objectivity must continue to guide their work, particularly when the country grapples with security and socioeconomic challenges.
“As journalists, we have a vital role to play. Through responsible reporting and constructive storytelling, we can help shape public understanding, promote social cohesion, and contribute to the ongoing efforts to build a more secure and united nation,” he said.

He appealed to members of the chapel to view technology as an ally rather than a threat, urging them to invest in digital tools that would enhance their productivity and relevance in a rapidly evolving media landscape.
“The digital age has ushered in tools and platforms that can improve our craft, expand our reach, and enhance our efficiency.
“These technologies are not here to displace us but to support our work,” Abba said.
He expressed gratitude to Almighty Allah for the opportunity to serve again, acknowledging the support of the Electoral Committee, the Yobe State Council of the NUJ, and chapel members for conducting a credible and peaceful election.
Abba also thanked the Yobe State Government under Governor Mai Mala Buni for the developmental strides across the state.
He extended appreciation to the Commissioner for Information, Home Affairs and Culture, Alhaji Abdullahi Bego, and the Director-General, Press and Media Affairs, to the Governor, for their consistent support to the chapel.
He called on Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs) in the state to maintain a cordial relationship with journalists, whom he described as strategic partners in public communication and development.
Abba pledged to build on the gains of the previous tenure, promising that the new executive would lead with fairness, diligence and accountability.
