Saudi Arabia has commenced preparations for the annual replacement of the Holy Kaaba’s Kiswa, the black silk cloth that covers Islam’s holiest shrine in Makkah, reaffirming the Kingdom’s longstanding commitment to preserving the sanctity of the Two Holy Mosques. The replacement exercise is being coordinated by the General Authority for the Care of the Affairs of the Grand Mosque and the Prophet’s Mosque through the King Abdulaziz Complex for the Holy Kaaba Kiswa. As part of the preparations, workers have started removing the gold-embroidered ornaments, decorative accessories, lamps, and other elements attached to the existing Kiswa, while the curtain covering the Kaaba’s door has also been lowered.
