69-year-old man writes 2023 UTME, applies to study medicine

The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has revealed that a 69-year-old man named Babatunde Fabiyi was among the candidates that registered and wrote the 2023 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination, UTME, with the aim of studying medicine at the University of Lagos.

It was also gathered that Fabiyi, who picked UNILAG as his first choice, chose the Lagos State University popularly known as LASU as his second choice with the same aim of studying medicine.

The examination body noted that the sexagenarian picked the Yaba College of Technology as his third choice to study science laboratory technology.

JAMB, in its comments, noted that “The sexagenarian hailed from Egbado-North, Ogun State, sat the UTME at Centre 457, Nubi Private School, Okota, Lagos State.

“The centre’s examination officials, in their various submissions, indicated that Mr Fabiyi was a model candidate as he not only came to the centre early enough but also followed all the instructions given to him diligently.”

It should be remembered that over 1.5 million candidates sat for the 2023 UTME and results from the exam and that of the mop-up UTME which had about 80,000 candidates have so far been released by the board.

The Minister of Education, Adamu Adamu, has expressed satisfaction with the conduct of the rescheduled 2023 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination.

Adamu, who alongside the registrar of the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board Professor Ishaq Oloyede, monitored the exam at the Computer Based Test Centre located in Mambilla Barracks, Asokoro, Abuja, expressed delight over the smooth conduct of the exercise.

While addressing journalists at the centre, Adamu said, “I am very happy with what I have seen. Regarding the (temporary) holding room (for candidates), and the arrangement where they are taking the examination, I think everything is in order.

“Everything is okay, have you seen any problem? Perhaps they should have a class for the holding room, I think that is the only improvement they will make her,” the minister said.
