Achraf Hakimi to face trial in France over rape allegation

Paris Saint-Germain defender and Morocco captain Achraf Hakimi is set to stand trial in France over a rape allegation dating back to 2023.

French media outlets, including France 24, reported on Tuesday that an investigating judge has concluded the probe and decided the case should proceed to criminal court.

The case stems from a complaint filed on February 26, 2023, by a 24-year-old woman who alleged she was raped at Hakimi’s residence in Boulogne-Billancourt, near Paris. According to the complaint, she had met the footballer via social media before visiting his home late on February 24.

Five days after the complaint, Hakimi — who previously played for Inter Milan, Borussia Dortmund and Real Madrid — was formally indicted. In August 2025, prosecutors in Nanterre requested that the matter be referred to a criminal court.

Tuesday’s development marks the end of the investigative stage, paving the way for a full trial. However, no date has yet been announced for court proceedings.

Hakimi, 27, has repeatedly denied the allegation, maintaining that the encounter was consensual. In a statement shared on X, he expressed frustration over the decision to proceed to trial while reaffirming his innocence.

“Today, a rape accusation is enough to justify a trial, even though I deny it and everything proves it’s false. This is as unjust to the innocent as it is to the genuine victims. I calmly await this trial, which will allow the truth to come out publicly,” he said.

The upcoming trial is expected to draw significant public attention given Hakimi’s high-profile status in international football.
